It primarily turns rotary motion from an engine or other power source into a swirling slipstream that propels the propeller forward or backward. It consists of a rotating power-driven hub to which numerous radial airfoil-section blades are attached, allowing the entire system to rotate along a longitudinal axis. The blade pitch is manually adjustable to a few preset locations or automatically adjustable “constant-speed.”The propeller is connected to the drive shaft of the power source either directly or through reduction gearing.
